Movie Review: The Simpsons Movie

Possibly THE best film adaptation of a television series in the history of film adaptations of television series.

Don't worry about not knowing the characters or series premise, beforehand. The story is self-contained so fans and non-fans alike will enjoy the film.

Some have expressed concern that this is just three regular episodes slapped together much like Seth MacFarlane's "Family Guy Presents: Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story." Not the case.

Yes, the animation style is slightly disconcerting when compared to the television series. Certain scenes are reminiscent of the technique used in Matt Groening's "Futurama," however, only those who are hardcore fans will really notice. I feel the different technique actually enhances the movie and makes it more enjoyable. One doesn't really notice because you're sucked into the story rather than the animation. The creators made sure that this wasn't a poorly executed movie solely for the purpose of making money. This movie was created for the fans.

I suggest watching "The Simpsons Movie" on a big screen. The filmmakers exploit the use of wide shots that would ordinarily be difficult to use for television.

This is probably the best film of the 2007 Summer season.

Hardcore fans should stay until the end of the credits.

Movie Review: Live Free or Die Hard

What a piece of shit.

Non-existent direction.

Mediocre cinematography with one or two above-average shots.

Choppy editing.

Below-par sound mixing.

Casting on the level of a cable-network's movie-of-the-week with the same caliber acting to go with it.

Dialogue and plot-line of the cookie-cutter summer "blockbuster" crap of the late 90's/early 00's.

I thought I was watching a movie by Michael Bay afflicted with mental retardation.

Movie Review: Bridge to Terabithia

A long awaited film that exemplifies imagination and somewhat-original storytelling (originally a book) rather than superfluous special effects and mundane catch phrases. This
brought me back to the days of "The NeverEnding Story" and films of the like. The balance between fantasy and reality helps this film stand out from most family driven movies which typically don't make the parallels to everyday situations that children should take away from watching a film of this genre.

Movie Review: la Vie en Rose (la Mome)

This is a nice little biopic that covers the life and premature death of French singer, Edith Piaf. Marion Cotillard does an above-average job portraying the "soul" of France. There are a few holes or rather unexplained events and character introductions that could've been more neatly expounded. Another slight irritant is the overuse of non-linear/fragmented storytelling created by the director's editing; the back and forth technique usually used to hold an audience's attention because the traditional linear approach would bore the average viewer. Other than those minor issues, this film should definitely find its place in film history.

Movie Review: Ocean's 13

Eh. What can I say about it? A conflict occurs to one of the 14 or so one-dimensional characters dispersed throughout the movie. His friends try to resolve the conflict. They encounter and overcome obstacles. The end.
